Gardai called after body of horse discovered on busy North Dublin road

Gardai attended the scene this morning after a dead horse was found on a busy Dublin road.

Officers were called to Cappagh Road in Finglas this morning after the discovery of the poor animal around 7am.

Motorists were advised to take car in the area while the council were called out the recover its body.

The horse has since been taken away a garda spokesperson said it's not believed any criminal offence took place.

She said: Gardaí attended an incident on the Cappagh Rd, Finglas, this morning, 19 Feb 2020 where a horse was found deceased. Dublin City Council recovered the horse. No offences disclosed.

The DSPCA's Gillian Bird called the case shocking and added that it's not uncommon for the animals to wander out of fields onto roads.

She told FM104: “We don’t know if the animal was dumped there or if it was the result of a road traffic accident, and we don’t know the exact location at the moment.

“It is shocking. It’s one of these things that we find with lots and lots of horses in fields, that they do get out onto the roads.

“Basically we’re asking the public to keep an eye, and let us know if there are any cases of animals in fields where they shouldn’t be, contact the local council and just be vigilant.”
