A young man has been arrested after being found in the possession of a handgun in Co Kildare.
The man, in his 20s, was arrested on Tuesday by gardai as part of Operation Thor.
Officers on patrol in Brownstown searched the man after observing him with a concealed item.
He was taken to Kildare Garda Station and is being detained under provisions of the Criminal Justice Act.
A spokesman said: "Gardaí from Kildare were on an Operation Thor patrol at Brownstown, Co Kildare when they observed a male with a concealed item.
"On searching the male, a firearm was recovered which he had concealed on his person. Investigations are continuing."
