Gardai arrest two people after seizing drugs worth €205K at checkpoint and premises in Limerick

Gardai arrested a man after seizing cocaine worth €70,000 at at a Covid-19 checkpoint in Limerick.

A follow-up search resulted in another seizure of drugs worth €135,000 and the arrest of a woman.

Officers stopped a car in the Kilteely area of Co. Limerick shortly before 10pm on Tuesday night.

They searched the car and subsequently discovered €70,000 of suspected cocaine.

A man in his 30s was arrested at the scene and brought to Henry Street Garda Station where he is currently detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996.

A garda spokesperson added: " A search warrant was later executed at a premises in Knockainey, Co. Limerick and Gardaí seized a further €100,000 of suspected cannabis herb and €35,000 of suspected cocaine.

"A woman in her 20’s was arrested at that location.

"She was taken to Henry Street Garda Station where she is also detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking Act) Act, 1996."]

All of the suspected drugs are now being sent for analysis.
