Gardai have arrested two men after seizing a loaded gun in Westmeath.
Officers from Blanchardstown in Dublin, investigating organised crime in the area, conducted an operation which led to the arrests of the two men, both from Dublin.
They were stopped and detained with the help of the Emergency Response Unit in Rathowen.
They seized a loaded semi-automatic Makarov handgun during the operation.
A garda spokesman said: "The two males are detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939 as amended at Blanchardstown and Finglas Garda Stations.
"Investigations are ongoing."
