Gardai arrest man over murder of fortune teller Stefan Nivelles Posschier in Westmeath

Gardai have arrested a man on the suspicion of murdering Stefan Nivelles Posschier.

The 65-year-old was found dead after he was stabbed at his home at Rattin, between Kinegad and Milltownpass, in Co Westmeath last month.

Originally from Belgium, Stefan had lived in the Westmeath area for over 20 years, working as a fortune teller and was well-known right across the county.

Gardai confirmed that Stefan had died from a violent assault shortly after the incident.

The incident shocked the local community - and now officers have arrested a man on Monday morning.

A Garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí in Mullingar who are investigating the death of Stefan Nivelles Posschier, 65 years have arrested a male this morning, Monday 7th November 2022. The male, aged in his 20s, was arrested on suspicion of murder.

"He is currently detained in Mullingar Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

"Investigations are ongoing."

In a separate appeal they asked anyone that met, saw or interacted with Stefan on social media on the days prior to the discovery of his body to make contact with them.

A spokesman said: "Investigating Gardaí can be contacted at the incident room in Mullingar Garda Station on 044 9384000, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or through any Garda Station."
