Gardai arrest man on suspicion of murder after 25-year-old stabbed to death in Tallaght

Gardai have arrested a man on suspicion of murder after a 25-year-old man was stabbed to death in Tallaght, Dublin on Tuesday night.

The young man, named locally as Ademola Giwa, was knifed in the neck at Mac Uilliam Road at around 7.15pm.

He was rushed to Tallaght University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The man taken into custody this afternoon, who is in his 20s, was arrested in Dundalk, Co Louth.

He is currently detained at Tallaght Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

Another man, aged in his 50s, was injured in last night's incident and is being treated in hospital. He received non-life-threatening injuries.

A huge investigation is under way by gardai who are understood to be following a definite line of inquiry.

Mr Giwa lived in the same area where he was attacked.

Today, the scene remains cordoned off as a forensic examination took place.

Gardai also carried out door-to-door inquiries in a bid to get information to help with the probe.

A post-mortem examination is also taking place on Mr Giwa's body on Wednesday.

Gardai are appealing for information.

A spokeswoman said: "Gardai are appealing to any persons who may have witnessed the incident or were in the area between 6.30pm and 7.15pm or any passing taxis with dash cam footage to contact Tallaght Garda Station on 01 666 6000, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.

"Investigations ongoing."

Local councillor Charlie O'Connor said he and the community are in deep shock and are very upset about the incident.

"The first thing we should do is show sympathy to the family and other families who have been impacted. This has affected the whole community and it will affect the wider Tallaght area as well.

"I would encourage people to co-operate with Gardaí in Tallaght as they are appealing for witnesses to come forward," he added.

Meanwhile, councillor Louise Dunne described the fatal stabbing as "absolutely heartbreaking".

"The community is in total shock, and my thoughts and condolences are with the family who have lost a son, grandson and nephew. I have sons myself and I cannot imagine how it feels for the family to lose their son," she said.
