A man has been arrested in Limerick after he attempted to rob a premise with a glass bottle.
During the incident, the robber made a bid to steal money from the till and in doing so, the thief hit the owner of the shop over the head with a glass bottle, injuring his face.
Gardai in Roxboro Road were alerted to the incident that occurred at a business premises on St. Nessan's Road, Limerick.
The incident occurred at approximately 5 p.m. on the evening of Friday, August 20.
In a statement, the Gardai said: "A lone male (mid-20s) entered the premises and armed himself with a glass bottle from the shelf. He subsequently attempted to take money from the till and hit the owner of the shop over the head with a bottle and injured his face.
"He was arrested by Gardaí upon their arrival. The injured party received treatment by ambulance staff at the scene."
The man has been arrested and taken to Roxboro Road Garda station where he was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
The robber has since been charged in relation to the incident and is due to appear before a special sitting of Ennis District Court on the evening of Saturday, August 21.
Investigations are ongoing.
