Gardai arrest man, 22, over late-night assault in Navan, Co Meath which left man critical

A man has been arrested in connection with a vicious late-night assault which left another young man in a critical condition.

A 21-year-old man suffered serious injuries after the incident in Navan, Co Meath at around 3am on Saturday.

He was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda before being transferred to Beaumont Hospital, Dublin.

Gardai appealed for witnesses to come forward on Saturday afternoon. Officers from Navan Garda Station have now confirmed that a 22-year-old man was arrested on Sunday morning.

A spokesman said: "An Garda Síochána arrested a 22 year old Male, this morning, Sunday the 25th of August in connection with a serious assault that occurred in Navan, on the 24th of August.

"He is currently being detained in Navan Garda station under Section four of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

"The injured party remains in Beaumont Hospital, where his condition is described as critical."
