Gardai arrest man, 22, in connection with murder of Dublin fitness instructor John Gibson

A 22-year-old man has been arrested in relation to the murder of a fitness instructor in Tallaght, Dublin two years ago.

John Gibson, 28, was shot in the head as he sat in his car close to Citywest Shopping Centre in September 2017.

The dad-of-two from Lucan had parked his car on Fortunestown Lane when the gunman struck before fleeing the scene, Dublin Live reports.

A white Volkswaggon Caddy was later found burnt out near the scene.

Gardai released a statement on Monday morning saying a young man is currently being held in Tallaght.

A spokesman said: "Gardaí at Tallaght Dublin 24 investigating a fatal shooting on the 18th September 2017 have arrested a 22 year old man this morning, Monday 25th March 2019 in connection with this investigation.

"He is currently detained at Tallaght Garda Station under the provisions of Section 30 – Offences Against the State Act 1939. Investigations are continuing."
