Gardai arrest learner driver who tested positive for cannabis and cocaine in Roscommon

Gardai arrested a learner driver who tested positive for drugs while driving unaccompanied in Co Roscommon.

The motorist tested positive for cannabis and cocaine after being stopped by officers during a Mandatory Intoxicant Testing (MIT) checkpoint.

The driver was arrested and their vehicle was detained also.

A tweet from the Garda Traffic account said: "Driver on learner permit with no qualified driver - Licence check on mobility app.

"Driver tested positive for cannabis and cocaine. Driver arrested and vehicle detained. Court and Fixed Charge Penalty Notice (FCPN) to follow."

Meanwhile, another learner driver stopped was stopped for not wearing a seatbelt in Co Longford.

Gardai subsequently discovered that the motorist was driving unaccompanied and had no insurance, tax or NCT.

A spokesperson said the driver will face a court appearance.
