An elderly man has been arrested after he caused a number of collisions while driving the wrong way down a busy motorway.
The man, in his 80s, caused at least two crashes on the N11/M11 when he entered the main Wicklow road on the wrong side.
Then man drove southbound along the northbound route and reportedly caused two crashes - one near Kilmacanogue, and another near Arklow.
Junctions 13 to 21 northbound on the motorway were shut down by gardai after arresting the man at around 7:15pm on Sunday night.
Gardai told Dublin Live that investigations are still ongoing.
They said: "Gardai have arrested a male, aged in his 80s, following an incident of dangerous driving on the M11 yesterday evening, Sunday 5 December 2021 at approximately 7.15pm.
"The male collided with a number of oncoming vehicles when he drove southbound on the northbound lane of the M11.
"Investigations are ongoing at this time."
