Gardai arrest 20-year-old and teenager following late night car chase through Coolock, north Dublin

Gardai arrested a teenager and 20-year-old following a chase through north Dublin in the early hours of the morning.

It happened as part of an investigation into a car that was stolen in the Blanchardstown area on Monday.

The car was spotted in the Coolock area just after midnight, and garda units including a helicopter went in pursuit.

They then found it abandoned on the R139, with the two occupants of the car fleeing on foot.

Both were arrested, with the 20-year-old charged in connection with the incident. Both occupants were released by gardai.

A garda spokesman told Dublin Live: "As part of ongoing investigations into the unauthorised taking of a car in the  Blanchardstown area on 13/1/2020, Gardaí arrested two male youths following a brief managed pursuit in the Coolock area.

"Shortly after midnight (16/1/2020) the car was observed in the Coolock and followed by Gardaí. It was recovered on the on R139 having been abandoned.

"Two occupants of the car (aged 20 years and mid-teens) fled on foot and were arrested for road traffic offences. Both were taken to Coolock Garda Station for questioning.

"The 20-year-old has since been charged and released to appear before a sitting of Dublin District Court early next month while the second youth has been released without charge. Investigations are ongoing."
