Gardai arrest 17 people in Cork for suspected importation of child porn, burglary, theft and threats to kill as part of Operation Thor

Some 17 people were arrested in Cork on Tuesday as Operation Thor swarmed the city and county.

Gardai arrested people for suspected importation of Child Pornography Material, burglary, theft, robbery and threats to kill.

Of the 17 arrests, 11 have been charged and files have been prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions for the remaining six.

As part of the day of action, multi-agency checkpoints were carried out on the N22, Currahally Farran, Cork Beo reports.

Over the course of these checkpoints, a number of offences were detected and four vehicles were discovered to have major defects.

Community policing units provided Crime Prevention packs to distribute to Meals on Wheels members in the division and a crime prevention stand was erected in the Bandon district where information and flyers were distributed to members of the public.

A garda spokesperson said: "An Operation Thor Day of Action was carried out in the West Cork Garda Division, yesterday the 24th of September.

Gardaí arrested a total of seventeen people in relation to a number of incidents such as suspected importation of Child Pornography Material, burglary, theft, robbery and threats to kill.

"Of the seventeen arrests, eleven have been charged and files have been prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions for the remaining six."
