A probe has been launched after a shocking hit and run left a 2-year-old hospitalised in Co Cork.
The incident occurred on Oliver Plunkett Street in Bandon, Co Cork on Saturday evening.
Gardai say that at around 6pm a male toddler was struck by a passing motorist who failed to stop and drove in the direction of Bandon Fire Station.
The tot was rushed to Cork University Hospital where his injuries are described as non-life threatening.
Gardai are appealing for witnesses to come forward - especially motorists, who may have dash cam footage of the incident.
In a statement, a garda spokesman said: "Gardaí are appealing for information following a Hit and Run road traffic collision that occurred on Oliver Plunkett Street, Bandon this evening Saturday 29th June, 2019.
"At approximately 6p.m. a toddler was struck by a passing motorist.
"The vehicle failed to stop and drove in the direction of Bandon Fire Station. The toddler (male, 2 years) was taken to Cork University Hospital and his injuries are not life threatening.
"Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward, anyone who was in the area or travelling on Oliver Plunkett Street, Bandon at the time of the collision or prior to it, that can assist with any information.
"They particularly are appealing to motorists with dash cam footage of the incident to make it available to them.
