Gardai appeal for witnesses to two assaults on the same Galway street

Gardai have launched an appeal for witnesses to two assaults on the same street.

The incidents took place on Eglington Street in Galway city in the early hours of Saturday, June 15 between 1.30am and 2.30am.

A man in his 40s was seriously injured as the came to the aid of another man in his 60s who was being assaulted, gardai said.

He was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Galway.

The second man received serious but non life-threatening injuries and didn't require hospital treatment at the time.

Gardai are appealing in particular to any witnesses who came to the assistance of an injured man outside the Brown Thomas store on the street to come forward.

Officers are also appealing to any motorists who may have dashcam footage and especially taxis who travelled this route between the hours of 1.30am-2.30am to come forward.
