Gardai appeal for witnesses after man, 20s, dies in early morning crash in Co Tipperary

A man in his 20s has died following a single-vehicle crash at College Green in Thurles, Co Tipperary.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday morning at around 3:15am.

Emergency services rushed to the scene to treat an injured male, but sadly he was pronounced dead a short time later.

His body has since been removed from the scene to the mortuary at University Hospital Limerick and a post-mortem will be conducted in due course.

It is understood that two other people were in the car, both of whom avoided injury.

A technical examination of the scene is underway by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators, and Gardaí have issued an appeal for information.

They are asking anyone with information - whether they witnessed the incident or have video footage (including dash-cam) - to contact Thurles Garda Station on 0504 25100, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.

In a statement released this afternoon, a garda spokesperson confirmed: "Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a fatal single-vehicle road traffic incident that occurred in the early hours of this morning, Thursday, 2nd March 2023 at College Green in Thurles, Co.Tipperary.

"The collision, involving a car, occurred at approximately 3:15 am. A man, aged in his 20s, was treated at the scene by paramedics but was later pronounced deceased.

"His body has since been removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Limerick. A post-mortem will take place in due course.

"There were two other people in the car at the time but no other injuries have been reported."
