Gardai appeal for witnesses after expensive engineering gear stolen from car in Skerries

Gardai are appealing for witnesses after engineering equipment was stolen from a car in Skerries yesterday afternoon.

The equipment was stolen from a Skoda parked on the South Strand in Skerries, with the guards being alerted to the theft at around 4:30pm.

The thief broke the rear passenger windows to gain entry into the black Skoda Superb saloon.

A Leica Viva TS16 surveying device in a case was robbed from the boot of the car.

The stolen case is red and white and has the words "this side up" written on it in black marker.

Gardai are now appealing to anyone with information about the theft to come forward.

A spokeswoman said: "Any person who may have witnessed any unusual activity on South Strand, Skerries yesterday afternoon between 3pm and 4.30pm is asked to contact Gardaí.

"Anyone who may have seen persons carrying a red and white plastic case with the word ‘Leica’ on it, which contained the surveying device, is asked to contact investigating Gardaí.

"Any person with information in relation to this matter is asked to contact Balbriggan Garda Station on 01 802 0510, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.

"Investigations are ongoing."
