A cyclist was raced to hospital after he was seriously injured in a hit and run incident in Mulhuddart on Thursday morning.

The 50-year-old was hit by a blue saloon car at the junction for Mulhuddart Village on Blanchardstown Road South at around 9:50am.

A number of vehicles stopped to help the cyclist and an ambulance attended the scene.

He was taken to James Connolly Memorial Hospital where his injuries were described as serious but not life threatening.

The car believed to have hit the cyclist continued driving in the direction of Mulhuddart Village following the collision.

Gardai have appealed for witnesses to the incident to contact them.

A garda spokesman said: "Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward as well as anyone who stopped to provide assistance.

"Gardaí are also appealing to anyone who may have been in the area between 9.50am and 10.10am, particularly motorists with dash cam footage, to come forward.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Gardaí at Blanchardstown on 01 6667008 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111."
