Gardai appeal for witnesses after cow dung thrown at two TDs

Gardai tonight appealed for witnesses to come forward as part of their probe into the incident where cow dung was thrown at two TDs.

Junior Minister Anne Rabbitte and Fine Gael TD Ciaran Cannon were attending a public meeting about a proposed biogas plant in Gort, Co Galway, when it happened on on January 4.

A local farmer, Joseph Baldwin, has admitted he was responsible and said he would not apologise “until they apologise for not providing a proper service as politicians” to Gort.

In a statement, gardai said: “Gardaí in Galway are continuing to investigate all the circumstances around a public order incident that occurred during a public meeting at a hotel in Gort, Co.Galway on Wednesday, 4th January 2023.

“Gardaí are appealing to any person who was at this meeting and who has not already spoken to Gardaí, to come forward. Any other person who may have any other information in relation this incident should also make contact with Gardaí.

“Gardaí can be contacted at Gort Garda Station 091 636 4000 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.

“No arrests have been made at this time. Investigations are ongoing.”
