Gardai are appealing for witnesses in connection with an attempted ATM theft in Louth in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Armed support units intercepted the attempted theft on Main Street in Dunleer at around 4.30am, and a pursuit ensued onto the N1, where the culprits made their way over the border into Northern Ireland.
Gardai are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have seen a tractor pulling a low-loader and excavator in the area around the time of the incident.
Officers are also appealing for any information regarding a white pick-up 4x4, which may have been used.
The vehicle may be damaged at the rear and is believed to have crossed into Northern Ireland.
A twin-axle trailer was also left at the crime scene, and gardai are asking anyone who may have had a trailer stolen in the past, but failed to report it, to come forward.
The attempted raid on the Bank of Ireland ATM left bricks and rubble strewn across Main Street in Dunleer and the street was closed off during the morning while gardai carried out investigations.
The PSNI are assisting gardai with the investigations. No injuries have been reported.
