Gardai and Revenue seize €26,000 of illegal cigarettes after raiding home in Enniscorthy, Co Wexford

Illegal cigarettes worth a whopping €26,000 were seized during a raid at a Co Wexford home.

Gardai and Revenue officials recovered over 38,000 cigarettes after a search at a property in Enniscorthy on Wednesday.

It's believed the retail value of the products would represent a loss to the Exchequer of €20,500.

No arrests were made during the operation. Anyone with information in connection with smuggling is asked to contact Revenue in confidence.

A spokesman said: "These seizures are part of multi-agency operations targeting the supply and sale of illegal tobacco products in the shadow economy.

"If businesses or members of the public have any information regarding smuggling, they can contact Revenue in confidence on free phone number 1800 295 295."
