A man in his 40s has sadly died after a horror one car crash in Galway this morning.
Gardai and other emergency services remain at the scene this afternoon after the collision at 6:30am in Abbeyknockmoy.
The driver of the car received serious injuries in the crash and was transferred to University Hospital Galway where he has been pronounced dead.
Officers are appealing for anyone who may have been in the area at the time to contact them.
A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí are currently at the scene of a fatal single vehicle road traffic collision that occurred at approximately 6:30am on Monday, 30th November, 2020, in Abbeyknockmoy, County Galway.
"The driver and only occupant of the vehicle involved, a man in his late 40s, sustained serious injuries during the collision and was taken to University Hospital Galway where he has since passed away. A post mortem will be conducted at a later date.
"Forensic Collision Investigators are currently technically examining the scene and the road is closed in order for this examination to take place. Local diversions are in place.
"Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward. Gardaí are also appealing for any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling in the Abbeyknockmoy area at approximately 6:30am to make this footage available to Gardaí.
