Gardai and Defence Forces find loaded pistol near secondary school in Blanchardstown, west Dublin

Gardai and army searching waste ground in Blanchardstown have recovered a gun and ammunition.

The search is connected to an ongoing feud in the Corduff area and is the latest in a series of intelligence led searches.

Gardai called in the engineering corp from the Defence Forces who were using metal detectors and other devices to search for the firearms.

A source has said that the search discovered a gun and ammunition - this has been sent for examination by ballistics experts.

A source said: “Tensions in Corduff and the surrounding area is at all time high. It is believed that the gun may have been stored ahead of an intended hit in the coming days.

“Gardai have not made any arrests but there will be forensic examinations of anything found.”

Tensions are high in the Corduff area, near Blanchardstown, after two months of feuding gang violence.

Violence has erupted in the area in recent weeks when a drug gang ruptured and spilled into open gun battles on the streets of the suburb.

Feuding drug gangs launch multiple reprisal gun attacks in Dublin and Louth

In one incident, as revealed by the Irish Mirror who obtained footage of the shooting, shots were blasted by two gunmen when the warring factions came in contact with each other.

There was also a shooting outside a school that saw students locked in their class rooms as gardai hunted a gun man.

The gunman sprayed bullets at two men standing outside Riversdale Community College as parents were getting ready to collect children.

No one was injured in the shooting by a lone gunman linked to an ongoing feud between two crime families in the area.

The school was put on a temporary lockdown as teachers kept the children indoors while gardai secured the roadways outside.

The feud is lead on either side by two warring families of criminals.

They are suspected to be involved in the drug trade and have been the subject of garda organised crime probes.

The Emergency Response Unit and Armed Support Unit have been rushed to the area to deal with the issue.

Gardai, in a statement said that they found a loaded Makarov 9mm pistol and silencer was located. At a separate location the search team discovered nine shotgun cartridges and four 9mm bullets.

Superintendent Liam Carolan Blanchardstown said: "The search carried out today resulted in another firearm being taken off the streets.

"This is the second joint operation carried out by Gardaí from Blanchardstown, assisted by our colleagues from the Defence forces, in which firearms have been recovered.

"The contribution of the defence forces has been invaluable in these searches''.
