Gardai and ambulances at scene of horror five-vehicle collision in Waterford as emergency services shut busy road

Gardai have closed a busy road in Waterford after a multiple vehicle collision early on Wednesday morning.

Emergency services were alerted to the incident on Outer Ring Road in Waterford City a few hours ago.

Five vehicles collided just near the Butlerstown roundabout, with pictures seen by local media showing an entire rear wheel of one of the cars being destroyed.

The road will remain closed for the morning and local diversions have been put in place while gardai work through the aftermath of the smash.

A Garda spokesperson told the Irish Mirror: "Gardaí and Emergency Services are attending the scene of a 5 vehicle road traffic collision on the outer ring road in Waterford Town this morning at 8.23am.

"No injuries have been reported at this time and the road is closed and local diversions are in place."
