Gardai across Ireland to observe a minute's silence in memory of slain Detective Garda Colm Horkan

Gardai across the country are set to observe a minute of silence in memory of Detective Garda Colm Horkan who was murdered in the line of duty in Co Roscommon.

The 48-year-old garda from Charlestown, Co Mayo received multiple gunshot wounds during an altercation on Thursday.

Garda stations around the country will hold a minute’s silence tomorrow at 12 noon to honour Det Horkan’s life and service.

A post on the An Garda Siochana Facebook page reads: “The funeral of Detective Garda Colm Horkan will take place at 12.00 on Sunday 21 June, 2020 in his hometown of Charlestown.

“To honour his life and brave service, a minute’s silence will be held at 12 noon at garda stations all over the country.

“We too at St Raphaels will join in this as a mark of respect for our member Colm. Please join us wherever you are in this minute of silence.

“Members of the public can attend at their local stations too. Ae dheis Dé go raigh an anam.”

Stephen Silver, 43, was charged with the murder of Det Horkan at a special sitting of Castlerea District Court at 10.30pm last night
