Garda warning issued for 'gentleman' who 'forgot' to hand stolen phone in

Gardai have issued a public warning after a phone was stolen from a customer in a Lidl store in Co Sligo.

The playful message was posted on Facebook by gardai, who have asked the culprit to ‘do the right thing’, ‘hand it in, and don’t have us come looking for you.’

The phone was reportedly taken from the shop on Monday but has yet to be handed in by the man who "found" it.

The warning said; ‘To the gentleman who "Found" a phone in Lidl, Finisklin, Sligo yesterday and "Forgot" to hand it in.......You still have time.

‘We are open 24hrs, on Pearse Road, Sligo.

‘We can accept it, talk about it, and hopefully work it out. We are nice like that.

‘And, best of all, we can help you get the phone back to the rightful owner (who is looking for it back).

‘Do the right thing. Hand it in, and don't have us come looking for you.’

Members of the public began weighing in on the situation on Facebook with their own stories of a similar theft, where things were quickly resolved - giving hope to the owner.

One wrote; ‘I lost my purse last Friday between Aldi and Dunnes. It was handed into Dunnes by a very honest person.'

Another wrote; ‘Couple of weeks ago I found a Wallet with money and cards, I couldn't find the owner so I played facebook Detective and found owner next day and got his wallet back and everything intact as it was when he lost it, never keep what's not yours, karma comes back to you'
