Garda squad car pulled from Cork pier as locals confused by situation

Locals in a rural Irish area were stunned to see a Garda squad car being hoisted out of the water at a pier in recent days.

The scene took place at Rosscarbery Pier in West Cork, with a good bit of damage being visible on the vehicle.

And when a picture, taken by local woman Sylvia O'Gorman, was shared by Celtic Ross Hotel manager Neil Grant, people were bamboozled.

Commenters on the photo weighed in on what they thought had happened, with one questioning "the blue lights could have sheared off in an incident, but where’s the two black letters that are on the roof of every marked vehicle?"

But all was not what it seemed.

It was confirmed shortly after that the incident was part of a filming session for a TV series.

We already know that the TV adaptation of Graham Norton's Holding is being shot in the area at the moment, so it would make perfect sense for it to be that.

The four-part ITV series, which is promised to be a huge free advertising campaign for tourism in the area, has been filming in locations like Skibbereen for months now.

Set in the fictional village of Duneen, the series will feature performances from Derry Girls star Siobhan McSweeney.

Sergeant PJ Collins hasn't always been this overweight; mother of- two Brid Riordan hasn't always been an alcoholic; and elegant Evelyn Ross hasn't always felt that her life was a total waste.

So when human remains are discovered on an old farm, suspected to be that of Tommy Burke - a former love of both Brid and Evelyn - the village's dark past begins to unravel.

As the frustrated PJ struggles to solve a genuine case for the first time in his life, he unearths a community's worth of anger and resentments, secrets and regret.
