Garda sex attack probe launched as three women assaulted late at night in Courtown, Co Wexford

Gardai are probing a sex attack in which three women were attacked in a late night horror incident.

The assault happened at a walkway in the Burrow area of Courtown Harbour, Co Wexford on Sunday morning at 12.15am.

Gardai have refused to release details of the incident but sources have said that it is believed three women in their teens suffered injuries.

The gardai believe that they were set upon and beaten and sexually assaulted.

It is believed a group of men were responsible for the attack.

Sources have said that gardai have forensically examined the scene and also sought CCTV footage.

The women, all from Dublin, have also been interviewed and locals have been asked for information.

The Garda press office has released a statement asking for help.

The statement said: "Gardaí are investigating an incident of a serious nature that is reported to have occurred on 28/07/19 at approximately 12:15am in the Burrow area of Courtown Harbour, Gorey, Co. Wexford.

"Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have information, particularly anyone who was in the in the Burrow area between 10pm on 27/07/19 and 2am on 28/07/19 who observed any suspicious behaviour to contact Gardaí in Gorey on 053 943 0690 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.

"Due to the sensitive nature of the incident no further information is currently available. Investigations are ongoing."
