Garda rushed to hospital after patrol car crashes into wall during chase in Rathmines

A garda was taken to hospital last night after a patrol car crashed into a wall during an operation in Rathmines.

The crash happened at around 7pm during the pursuit of a cyclist on the Claireville Road.

The officer was uninjured but was taken to St James's Hospital as a precaution.

A man was later arrested after cannabis and cocaine worth €5,000 was seized.

A garda spokesman told Dublin Live: "Gardaí have seized cocaine and cannabis with a combined value of €5,000 (analysis pending) and arrested a male cyclist (24) following an operation on Claireville Road, Dublin 6 at approximately 7pm on Thursday 26/8/2021.

"The man was taken to Rathmines station for questioning where he is detained under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

"Enquires are ongoing."
