A garda probe has been launched after a prisoner suffered an alleged sex attack by two fellow inmates in an Irish prison.

The incident in Cork Prison involved three prisoners and is understood to have happened last week.

A source said: "The prisoner was approached by two men, who are serving a sentence for a violent crime.

"They asked him did he have any drugs on him, he said he didn't and they began to search him.

"One of the men then stuck his finger into the alleged victim's anus.
