Garda probe launched after masked men with sledgehammers raid house in Laois

Gardai are investigating an aggravated burglary which saw three women and two men assaulted by masked men with screwdrivers and sledgehammers.

The incident, which happened in Shaen in Portlaoise, Co Laois at around 9.50pm on Tuesday, saw four masked intruders armed with sledgehammers and screwdrivers enter a house where they assaulted the five occupants.

The suspects stole jewellery, cash and other items before fleeing the scene on foot, gardai said.

One of the men injured in the assault was taken to the Midland Regional Hospital in Portlaoise for treatment.

Gardai say no arrests have been made and investigations are continuing.
