A man suspected to be linked to the Drogheda feud was shot in a residential area on Thursday night in a brazen gun attack.
The 24 year-old was hit by bullets in the shoulder and face in the callous attack at around 8.20pm at Termon Abbey in the Co Louth town.
The injured man was rushed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital after receiving treatment at the scene.
His injuries were described as being ‘non-life threatening’ as investigating officers launched a probe.
A local source said: "I believe that this man is linked to the ongoing gang feud in the town."
A garda spokesman said: “Gardaí in Drogheda are at the scene of an apparent shooting incident of a male in his 20s that occurred at approximately 8.20pm today 20th June 2019 in the area of north Drogheda.
“The man has been taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital where his injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.
“Investigations are ongoing and there will be no further comment at this time.”
Chief superintendent Christy Mangan last month said he had “very, very frank” discussion with Justice Minister Charlie Flanagan about the capabilities of the rival factions in Drogheda, Co Louth.
He said he told the Minister authorities were “dealing with very, very violent criminals, some of whose propensity for violence knows no bounds”.
While he admitted there was “a certain level of fearlessness” surrounding criminals he added when “arrested and charged they will lose that persona fairly quickly”.
A new batch of 25 Garda recruits were sent to the town recently to combat the ongoing violence in the large town.
