Garda probe as two bodies found 30km apart in Meath including one wrapped in carpet

Gardai have launched separate investigations after two bodies were found 30km apart in Meath yesterday.

A man’s body was found wrapped in carpet and dumped on remote farmland in Kilbride, near Ashbourne on Saturday afternoon.

It is understood officers are treating the man’s death as suspicious with sources indicating the victim may have met a violent death.

Gardai confirmed in a statement that they were investigating the discovery of a body in “unexplained circumstances”. It said: “Gardai in Ashbourne are investigating the discovery of a body in unexplained circumstances this afternoon Saturday 10 December, 2022

“The scene is currently preserved and a technical examination will be conducted by the Garda Technical Bureau, who are en route.The office of the State Pathologist have been notified. The results of the post-mortem will determine the course of the investigation.”

Meanwhile, gardai found another man’s body in the same county, at a property in Academy Street in Navan yesterday.

In an update this morning, gardai said a woman aged in her 30s has been arrested in connection with the death.

A spokesperson said “Gardai at Navan continue to investigate all of the circumstances surrounding the death of a man in his 40s whose body was discovered in a residential property on Academy Street, Navan on Saturday 10th December, 2022.

“The body of the deceased remains at the scene which is preserved for forensic and technical examination by the Garda Technical Bureau. The Office of the State Pathologist and local Coroner have been notified.

“A woman aged in her 30s has been arrested and is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Kells Garda Station.”

It is unclear if the two tragedies are linked.
