A Garda manhunt has been launched to find an 'aggressive and extremely violent' thug who broke into the home of a person well-known to him and smashed a bottle over her head in a horrific Dublin attack.
The frightening early morning assault left the helpless woman unconscious after the man smashed his way into the victim's home at 2am on Monday in the Glenshane area of Tallaght.
Breaking a window to get inside the property, the man in his 40s found the victim in the sitting room and grabbed a bottle which he cracked over her skull.
The woman, who is also in her 40s, was seriously injured in the horrific incident and remains in Tallaght Hospital but thankfully her condition is not life-threatening.
Following the cowardly attack, the thug fled the scene before causing more criminal damage on his way out.
A Garda spokesman told Dublin Live that they are following a "definite line of enquiry" to catch the spineless man behind the assault.
A source added that the 'man is aggressive, extremely violent and that the victim could have been killed'.
The manhunt operation has been put to the top of officers' urgency list this week with Tallaght Gardai wanting to find, arrest and talk to the man immediately.
A Garda spokesman told Dublin Live: "Shortly after 2am on 25 May, Gardaí from Tallaght were called to the scene of an aggravated burglary at an address in the Glenshane area of Tallaght.
"A woman in her 40s sustained head injuries in the incident and was taken to hospital for treatment, her injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
He added: "No arrests have been made to date but it's understood investigating Gardaí are following a definite line of enquiry.
"Anyone with information is asked to contact Tallaght Garda Station."
