Garda manhunt launched as man escapes from Drogheda garda station

A search has been launched after a young man escaped from a garda station.

The incident happened at around 8.30pm on Wednesday night in Drogheda Garda Station.

It is understood that the 22-year-old was being held for an alleged theft.

He is believed to be from the west Dublin area.

Gardai are currently on the hunt for the individual, and investigations are still ongoing.

A spokeswoman said: "Gardai in Drogheda are investigating an incident of a man (22 years) unlawfully at large.

"The incident occurred on Wednesday June 17, 2020 at approximately 8.30p.m. at Drogheda Garda Station.

"Investigations ongoing."
