Garda left speechless at checkpoint after woman's barely believable 5km excuse

A garda was left speechless this week after one woman's excuse for being outside her 5km 'couldn't be made up'.

Angela Brickley is a dairy farmer from Laois who was in Cork on Tuesday making an important delivery from her business.

She was stopped by a guard at a Covid checkpoint in Innishannon and when she was asked why she was beyond her 5km she had a very reasonable and unusual response, Cork Beo reports.

She tweeted: "Doing deliveries yesterday and was stopped at a Garda checkpoint in Cork.

"Are you local? No. Why are you out? I am delivering bull semen to dairy farmers.

"You are doing what?? I repeat what I said, her reply was "you couldn't make that up".

"I was travelling back from Dublin on the August Bank Holiday weekend last year and I was stopped at a checkpoint and the guard asked me why I was out.

"He said 'Are you doing grocery shopping?' and I said 'No I'm delivering bull semen"' he took two steps back and said 'I am sorry I asked, drive on!'.

"One fella in West Clare said to me 'Is that strictly necessary?' and I said 'It's breeding season, the cows have to calve!'.

Others on Twitter who work in farming said that they too had been stopped by gardai at checkpoints, some even while transporting animal carcasses.
