Garda launch probe after building set on fire during burglary in Dublin

A man has been left hospitalised with "serious injuries" after a fire broke out in Dublin City Centre on New Year's Eve..

The fire happened at the Grand Lodge of Freemasons of Ireland Library on Molesworth Street shortly after 5pm.

Emergency services attended the scene, and Gardaí have now confirmed that a criminal probe has been launched.

A spokesperson told the Irish Mirror: "Gardaí at Pearse Street investigating an incident of Burglary and Criminal Damage that occurred at a property in Dublin 2 yesterday evening, Friday 31st December 2021, are appealing to the public for information.

"At approximately 5:20pm Gardaí were alerted to an ongoing incident at a property on Molesworth Street. Upon arrival they discovered the building on fire which was brought under control sometime later.

"A man in his 30s was injured during the incident and was brought to St James Hospital to be treated for his injuries.

"Gardaí are appealing to any members of the public who may have witnessed this incident or who can assist Gardaí to contact them.

"Gardaí are also appealing to any road users who were in these areas at these times who have camera footage (including dash-cam) to make this footage available to Gardaí.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Pearse Street Garda Station on 01 666 9000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station."
