Garda investigation under way after body of young woman, 21, found by walkers in Co Waterford

The body of a young woman was found by walkers in Co Waterford over the weekend.

The tragic discovery was made in the Ferrybank area of the county shortly after 4pm on Saturday.

Officers said emergency services rushed to the scene after they were alerted by people strolling through the area.

The body of a 21-year-old woman was found at the scene.

Her body was brought to University Hospital Waterford. A post mortem is due to take place there on Monday which will determine the course of the investigation.

The coroner has also been notified.

However, it is believed that officers do not currently suspect foul play.

A garda spokesman said: "Gardaí and Emergency Services were alerted following the discovery of the body of woman (21) shortly after 4pm on Saturday 3rd July 2021.

"The alarm was raised by people walking in the area at the time.

"Her body was removed to the mortuary at WUH where a post-mortem will be carried out.

"The Coroner has been notified."
