Garda investigation launched after young man dies in late-night assault in Co Kildare

A man in his 20s has died after a late-night assault in Co Kildare.

Officers from Robertstown were called to a public order incident in the Allenwood South area at around midnight on Sunday, where they found a silver Audi that was reported to have collided with a Red Renault Traffic van.

After arriving at the scene no complaint was given to gardai and the two vehicles have been detained for forensic exams.

Later at 3.49am gardai were called to an assault in Allenwood South, where they found a man unconscious on the road.

Emergency services administered CPR and he was brought by ambulance to Naas General Hospital.

However the man in his late 20s was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Gardai are now asking for members of the public to come forward with any information relating to the incidents.

A spokesman said: "Gardaí are making the following appeals for information:

"Information on the movement of the Silver Audi A4, registration 09CN6292 on the evening of Saturday 2nd January 2021 until 00:45 hours on Sunday 3rd January 2021

"Information in relation to the incident between the Silver Audi A4 and the Red Renault Traffic van in the Allenwood area

"Information in relation to any incidents which occurred in the Allenwood South area between 12am and 4.30am, including the fatal assault on the male at Allenwood South

"Any person with any information on these incidents is asked to contact investigating Gardaí at Naas Garda Station 045 884300, the Garda Confidential Phone Number 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.

"No Garda spokesperson is available at this time. Further details will be provided when appropriate."
