Garda investigation launched after discovery of body at popular Irish swimming spot

A garda probe has been launched after the discovery of a body at the Corbally Baths in Limerick.

The grim discovery was made as part of an investigation into a missing person.

The body was recovered from the water and removed to University Hospital Limerick.

A post-mortem examination is now due to take place.

The deceased is yet to be identified and foul play is not suspected at this time.

A garda spokesman said: "Gardaí are investigating the circumstance surrounding the discovery of a body in Corbally, Co Limerick on June 9, 2021.

"As part of an investigation into a missing person, Gardaí located a body in the water at Corbally Baths.

"The deceased was removed to University Hospital Limerick where the State Pathologist will carry out a post mortem."

The Corbally Baths, which was previously a popular area for swimmers and families, has been closed for many years.

Many campaigns have been launched in recent years in a bid to reopen the area.
