Garda investigation launched after body of young man found in Cork city centre

Gardai have said that a post mortem examination will determine the course of an investigation into the discovery of a man's body in Cork city earlier today.

The body of a man in his 30s was discovered near the entrance to Merchant's Quay car park on Parnell Place this morning.

The man's body was examined at the scene and has now been taken to CUH where a post mortem will take place tomorrow.

Gardai say the results of this examination will determine the course of the investigation - CorkBeo reports.

Gardai preserved the scene this afternoon for a technical examination and the man was pronounced dead.

A Garda statement this afternoon said ""Gardaí are currently at the scene which has been preserved.

"The man, age unknown at present, was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Gardaí are currently trying to establish the circumstances of this incident and no further details are available at present."
