Garda injured in huge high-speed car crash chase after suspected shooting in north Dublin

A Garda and two others have been injured in a high-speed car chase on the M50 after a suspected shooting in north Dublin in the early hours of this morning.

The officer was injured in the pursuit - which took place on the busy Dublin motorway - when a patrol car and a vehicle, believed to have been involved in the shooting, smashed into each other at the N4 Junction.

Gardai responded to reports of shots being fired at a house in the Finglas area at around 3am this morning which was followed by the huge chase.

The vehicle is understood to have tried to ram into the patrol car and subsequently flipped over upon impact.

The injured Garda and two other men were rushed to hospital following the serious crash and it is understood that a firearm was recovered from the vehicle.

The Garda Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) confirmed that they are now examining the collision.

A spokeswoman for GSOC said: "We received a referral (in accordance with section 102 (1) of the Garda Síochána Act, 2005) from the Garda Síochána at 4.56am today in relation to an incident in which a vehicle, which was being pursued by gardaí, overturned on the N4 close to the M50 junction.

"Two occupants of the vehicle received injuries and one garda member was also brought to hospital for examination. The matter is now under examination by GSOC."
