Garda hunt underway for lowlife thug caught on camera breaking into car and stealing valuable items in quiet Dublin estate

This is the moment that a lowlife thug was caught red-handed breaking into a car and stealing valuable items from it in a quiet Dublin estate.

The slimy thief was snapped on CCTV trying doors of different vehicles in the Sandyford area before successfully opening a dark coloured car.

He doesn't delay either, spending less than one minute ransacking the car and swiping as much contents from it as possible before closing the door and fleeing the scene on foot.

A number of costly items were taken during the break-in and a Garda hunt has been launched to find the man behind the crime.

Councillor for Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown, Michael Fleming warned others in the area about the incident and asked anyone with information to come forward.

He also added that he was looking forward to Stepaside Garda Station reopening on March 9 and hoped that it would combat some of the serious thefts that have taken place over the last few weeks in the area.

He said: "CCTV of a car break-in in the early hours of Wednesday morning in Sandyford. Please lock your car. Thankfully, Stepaside Garda Station is scheduled to reopen next Monday.

"It should never have been closed in the first place by our Fine Gael and Labour Party Government at the time.

"But thanks to a fantastic community effort, we have achieved this result. Please lock your cars at night and keep any valuables in vehicles out of sight or bring them into your home."

A Garda spokesman told Dublin Live: "We are investigating a theft from a vehicle at Sandyford Village, Dublin 18 between 5.30pm on Wednesday 4th March 2020 and 7.30am Thursday 5th March 2020."

He added: "A number of items were taken. No arrests have been made. Investigations are ongoing."
