Garda hunt underway as alleged gunmen with balaclavas steal two tills of cash from shop in Meath

A garda hunt is currently underway after two armed men wearing balaclavas held up staff at gunpoint during a robbery at a Meath shop.

The two men confronted members of staff at the XL Top Garage in Drumconrath demanding cash on Thursday night at 8:45pm.

One of the thugs was holding what appeared to be a handgun as they demanded that staff fill a large white plastic bag with the drawers of their two tills.

The pair exited the shop and turned left, running up the road towards the graveyard on the Ardee Road.

Gardaí are appealing to anybody who was in the Drumconrath area last night and who noticed any unusual or suspicious activity, to contact the Detective Unit at Navan Garda Station telephone 046-9079930 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.

One of the till drawers was recovered on the N2 Ardee/Collon Road a short time later.
