Garda hospitalised after violent incident involving group of men in Co Offaly

A garda was hospitalised with facial injuries after a violent public order incident in Co Offaly over the weekend.

It happened on William Street in Tullamore at around 11.30pm last night.

Members of the force were responding to a public order incident involving a group of men when the garda was assaulted.

He was taken to Tullamore Hospital for what are believed to be facial injuries which have been described as non-life-threatening.

Two men were arrested for public order offences and later released without charge.

In a statement to the Irish Mirror, gardai said their investigations into the incident are ongoing.

They are appealing for witnesses to this "violent public order incident" to come forward.

Gardai also want to hear from motorists who may have camera footage, particularly those who were travelling on William Street between the junction of Harbour Street and Kilbeggan Bridge at approximately 11pm on Sunday night.
