Garda helicopter circles Swords and Malahide hunting alleged gunman reported on loose

The Garda helicopter was rampant around north Dublin yesterday evening and into the early hours of this morning after local reports about an alleged gunman on the loose.

There was a heavy police presence in Swords after gardai received reports of one man who was allegedly armed with a stun gun and raided a premises threatening staff.

The alleged incident is said to have taken place before 8pm with gardai immediately rushing to the scene.

Officers carried out an extensive search in the area with patrol cars before deploying a force helicopter to search nearby Malahide.

It was reported by several locals that the helicopter was shining lights into gardens all over north Dublin as part of the operation but no further information has been received by Gardai at this stage.

A Garda spokesman told Dublin Live: "Gardai received reports of a male allegedly brandishing a stun gun in the Applewood Village area of Swords. This is reported to have occurred on 16/06/2021 at approximately 7.40pm.

"Gardaí attended the scene and carried out an extensive search and enquiries in the area. Nothing detected at this stage. Enquiries are continuing."
