Garda dog helps in €333,000 drugs seizure during raids at eight homes in Ballina area of Co Mayo

A garda sniffer dog helped in the seizure of €330,000 worth of drugs during raids at homes in Co Mayo.

Gardai searched eight properties in the Ballina area in an operation targeting the sale and supply of drugs in the county.

Two people were arrested as cannabis, cocaine, steroids and ammunition were seized during the raids carried out between 9am and 4pm on Thursday.

One man was arrested after the seizure of €265,000 worth of cannabis from a grow house in Attymass.

He is currently detained at Ballina Garda Station.

A woman, in her 30s, was arrested after €11,000 worth of cocaine was discovered during a separate search of a house in Ballina town.

She has since been released without charge.

A garda spokesman added: "During the search of a house in Ballina town Gardaí seized €30,000 worth of cannabis herb in a garden shed.

"A further search was conducted at a house in Ballina where €20,000 worth of suspected cannabis herb, €7,000 worth of suspected cocaine, and a quantity of suspected steroid tablets were seized.

"Also at this property Gardaí recovered a small quantity of ammunition.

"All drugs are subject to analysis, and investigations are ongoing."

The operation was carried out by members of the Mayo Divisional Drugs Taskforce, the Armed Support Unit, the Garda Dog Unit, and Gardaí attached to Ballina Garda Station.
