Gardai have issued a warning over a new 'ghost car' trend that will see you arrested immediately no matter what your reason is for breaching Covid-19 rules.
As it stands under Level 5 lockdown restrictions, you are only allowed to drive within a 5km barrier, although there is some exceptions.
But motorists thought they could outsmart Gardai over the weekend in the capital by making their vehicle invisble.
Speaking about one incident, Gardai said that it "wasn't a bright decision" by the driver attempting to avoid a Garda checkpoint by "turning off their lights".
That particular person was arrested for dangerous driving straight away before being hit with a double blow when they tested positive for cocaine.
A spokesman told Dublin Live: "The vehicle was seized right away and the driver has been charged.
Checkpoints are in place up and down the country as part of Covid-19 prevention measures.
There will be more than 2,500 uniformed gardai on duty each day during the six-week lockdown.
The current Level Five rules state that you can only travel more than 5km from home for an essential purpose.
And in addition to enforcing the Covid-19 restrictions, gardai will of course also be ensuring all the regular rules of the road are followed, as several drivers in Co Kildare found out this weekend.
A garda spokesman wrote on Twitter: "Gardaí in Clane carried out a checkpoint recently targeting the use of mobile phones while driving.
"A total of six motorists were detected holding a mobile phone while driving. FCPNs and penalty points issued to the offending drivers."
