Garda clampdown on Croke Park pubs ahead of All-Ireland semi-final after Covid breaches during hurling final

Gardai will be inspecting all pubs around Croke Park throughout today after one was found breaking Covid restrictions after last week's All-Ireland hurling final.

Kerry and Tyrone throw in in the second All-Ireland football semi-final at 3:30pm this afternoon, with 24,000 fans allowed to attend the game.

The winner will meet Mayo after they knocked Dublin out two weeks ago.

But scenes of large gatherings and street drinking before the hurling final between Cork and Limerick received widespread condemnation on social media last Saturday.

And reports of pubs breaching Covid-19 regulations soon followed with temporary closure issued for a number of places, leading to a Garda clampdown on pubs this weekend.

They told Dublin Live that "all licensed premises in the area will be visited and inspected throughout the day" and that temporary closure orders will be enforced on pubs if they are caught breaking the rules.

"As per previous events in the area, all licensed premises in the area will be visited and inspected throughout the day and temporary closure orders for public health concerns will be enforced if deemed necessary," the sayd.

"An Garda Siochana will also ensure there is prior engagement with publicans in the area to remind them of their responsibilities and obligations in relation to the current COVID-19 regulations."

They also confirmed that an investigation is ongoing into one pub in the area for serious Covid-19 rule breaches.

"Gardai are carrying out enquiries into alleged breaches of Covid Regulations at one of these premises," they added.

"This investigation is ongoing and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions."
