Garda checkpoints: Unaccompanied learner driver nabbed for lack of tax and insurance

A learner driver found themselves in hot water after they were stopped by the gardai in north Dublin.

Gardai at Pearse Street seized vehicles after carrying out checkpoints in the Tyrellstown and Finglas areas recently.

Nine vehicles were seized after their owners were found to be driving with no insurance and driving unaccompanied with no L-plates.

Gardai say that court proceedings will follow regarding the no insurance detections.

Taking to social media, garda tweeted: "Pearse Street Gardaí seized 9 vehicles while conducting checkpoints at Tyrellstown & Finglas recently.

"The vehicles were seized for being driven by unaccompanied learner driver, no tax & no insurance.

"FCPNs have been issued. Proceedings to follow for all."

Under current laws learner permit holders must be accompanied at all times by a qualified driver who has had their license for more than two years.
